We are working with the Dominican Republic to measure crime and citizen security in ENHOGAR 2022

On December 9th, the UNODC-INEGI Center of Excellence team participated virtually in the design and construction meeting of the Citizen Security Module of the Dominican Republic. This Module will be included in the 2022 round of the National Multipurpose Household Survey (ENHOGAR).

This meeting is part of a joint work plan between the UNODC-INEGI Centre of Excellence and the National Statistics Office (ONE). The objective of these activities is to align this tool that has been used on previous occasions (2005, 2007, 2011 and 2015) to the United Nations international standards such as the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (UNODC; 2015) and the Manual on Victimization Surveys (UNODC, UNECE; 2010). After conducting two planning meetings (November 24th and December 2nd), the Victimization Lab team will support the country in adapting the questionnaire to UNODC’s Latin America and the Caribbean Crime Victimization Survey Initiative (LACSI). The country will select the crimes to be included according to the domestic information needs of the Dominican Republic. The fieldwork will be carried out in April and the Centre of Excellence will support throughout the entire implementation process of the Module.

The decision to improve an existing tool, adapting it to international standards, is a clear commitment at the country level for the fulfilment of the UN 2030 Agenda. The Center of Excellence supports countries in these efforts with the ultimate goal of having dedicated victimization surveys at the national level.
