The National Statistical Office of the Dominican Republic takes on the challenge of improving security and justice statistics.

April 11.- Mrs. Miositis Rivas, Director of the National Statistics Office (ONE) said that the accompaniment of the UNODC-INEGI Center of Excellence will strengthen the professional capacities of the ONE in the field of statistics on security, crime and criminal justice, for the development of statistical norms and standards; and in the same sense, technically support the institutions of the National Statistical System that generate data in these areas, through administrative records.
From April 4 to 8, staff from the Center of Excellence and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico (INEGI) participated in high-level meetings with various national institutions in the Dominican Republic to exchange best practices and identify priorities with respect to security, crime and criminal justice statistics.
During the meetings with senior staff of the Ministry of Interior and Police; the Supreme Court of Justice; the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development; the Attorney General’s Office; the General Directorate of Ethics and Government Integrity, as well as the Institutionality and Justice Foundation (FINJUS) and the Economic and Social Council, in addition to the Commissioner for Police Reform, information needs associated with priority national programs were reviewed.
The mission was carried out thanks to the efforts of the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic for Austria, Laura Faxas and her team, who will follow up on the next cooperation activities derived from this mission.
