10 years improving crime statistics in Latin America and the Caribbean

In May 2011, the Center of Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Crime, Victimization and Justice began activities, as a joint project between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico (INEGI), with the objective of strengthening statistical, analytical and monitoring capacities in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Our commitment to offer more and better methodological tools for the generation of data on security, victimization and justice, remains in force but becomes more relevant at a time when the use of evidence is strategic for decision-making in building just, peaceful and inclusive societies.

To celebrate our tenth anniversary, we have considered reflecting on the lessons learned along the way. But above all, we want to establish a dialogue within our organization and with the partners and stakeholders with whom we have collaborated, to identify the challenges that must be faced in crime statistics.

We invite you to join us for this celebration, on Wednesday, May 19, at 9:00 am, Mexico City time (GMT-5).
