Meeting of the Working Group on Public Security and Justice Statistics from the SCA-ECLAC

On September 13th, the Working Group on Public Security and Justice Statistics of the Statistical Conference of the Americas – ECLAC held a meeting in Mexico City to discuss its Biennial Program, which reflects the importance of promoting the consolidation of Security and Justice Statistical Systems. Lead by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico, with the support of the Center of Excellence in Statistics on Governance, Crime, Victimization and Justice (CoE), which serves as Technical Secretariat, the meeting gathered the following countries:

The representatives of each country shared their experience on adopting international standards for measuring the Sustainable Development Goals, on the implementation of Victimization Surveys in Latin America through the LACSI Initiative and on the adoption of the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS), which entails the use of a common language in criminal statistics.

Particular attention was given to the requirements and needs of each country for the technical support that the CoE will be providing in the upcoming months. The National Statistical Offices also committed to generate a summary of methodological documents and good practices on their statistical projects, particularly on those that are part of the statistical system on security and justice. Finally, the group stressed the importance of sharing knowledge and experiences through the “VicLab Talks” campaign.
