Mexico acknowledges UNODC efforts to measure drug use
Within the framework of 65th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, Mexico acknowledged the collaborative work it has carried out in recent years with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the construction of statistics and data for the formulation and design of evidence-based public policies on drugs.
In this regard, the work done by the Centre of Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Crime, Victimization and Justice (CoE), a joint programme between the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) of Mexico and UNODC. The CoE is currently developing a Manual for Surveys on the Use of Psychoactive Substances, which will contribute to the measurement of drug consumption, which is expected to be ready by the end of 2023. The development of this manual will advance the monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals and will fulfill the mandate of the United Nations Statistical Commission, established in the latest update of the Roadmap to improve crime statistics at national and international level.
Mexico confirmed its commitment to continue collaborating with UNODC in the development of methodologies and sources of statistical information that, at global, regional and national levels, will make it possible to accurately address drug-related issues in our societies.
