Institutional Analysis for Local Safety Audits. Visit at the Santiago of Querétaro Municipal Public Security Secretariat
Santiago of Querétaro Municipal Public Security Secretariat (MPSS), was visited as part of the Institutional Analysis for Local Safety Audits that UNODC is developing through the Center of Excellence in that municipality. The Officers in charge of the different directions of the Secretariat, received us and showed openness for the development of institutional and capacities analysis.
The objective of institutional and capacities analysis, is to know and deepen about strengths and opportunity areas in the MPSS, in order to face municipality insecurity. Some of the visited directions and areas were:
- Communication and Monitoring Center (CECOM),
- Police Intelligence and Analysis Unit for Prevention and Crime Combat,
- Police Professional Career Service Institute,
- Domestic and Gender Violence Specialized Attention Unit.
On the other hand, the Secretary of Security exposed about crime prevention programs such as “Safe Streets“, “Safe Communities” and “Safe Transport” developed mainly by the local police. At the end of the journey, two Social Prevention Integral Center were visited. These centers have the objective of decrease and avoid violence in a social prevention model by promoting community participation through playful and educational activities.
The Center of Excellence will continue visiting the MPSS, with the main purpose of strengthen institutional analysis. Also, in coordination with the Intelligence Police and Analysis Unit for Prevention and Crime Combat, efforts will be combined for better criminal analysis and use of statistical information in police interventions
