Meeting of the Task Force on Corruption Measurement
From 12 to 14 October, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) supported by the Center of Excellence in Statistical Information on Governance, Public Safety, Victimization and Justice (CoE) convened the first meeting of the Task Force on Corruption Measurement, whose main objective focused on the generation of a Manual on Corruption Surveys in Vienna (Austria).
The meeting was attended by experts from: UNODC; CoE; the Global Center for Public Service Excellence from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); The Enterprise Surveys from the World Bank; the Praia Group for Governance Statistics; the Shasa-GPS Strategic Initiative for the Harmonization of Statistics in Africa in the area of Governance, Peace and Security; the Interior DG of the European Commission; the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico (INEGI); the National Institute of Statistics of Italy (Istat); the National Institute of Statistics of Indonesia; the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Law at the University of Lausanne; University of Maryland; PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte.
During the meeting, information on the various existing approaches and tools for measuring corruption were exchanged. Above all, experts talked about the content that a Manual on Corruption Surveys to feed the indicators 16.5.1 and 16.5.2 of the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS). The manual is expected to be ready by the end of August 2017.
