The Center of Excellence promotes Victimization Surveys in 2nd International Conference on Citizen Security in Cordoba, Argentina

On 9 September, the “2nd International Conference on Public Safety: Science, Technology and Policy” was held in the city of Cordoba, Argentina, organized by the Observatory of Studies on Citizen Security in conjunction with the Faculty of Psychology of the National University, both institutions belonging to the province of Cordoba.

The Observatory is part of the Ministry of Public Security, wich depends on the Ministry of Government and Security of the Province of Cordoba. Speakers included representatives from the Centre for the Study of Crime and Public Safety of the Federal University of Mina Gerais in Brazil, the Undersecretary of Crime Prevention of the Ministry of Interior of Chile, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Cordoba, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) of Mexico, the Ministry of Public Security of Cordoba, as well as from the Center of Excellence UNODC-INEGI.

During the conference, the Center of Excellence presented UNODC’s efforts to improve statistics on crime and criminal justice, wich include the strengthening of Victimization Surveys in the region through the “Latin America and the Caribbean Crime Victimization Survey Initiative (LACSI)”, which consists of a regional questionnaire aligned to the international methodological standards and best practices.
