Dominican Republic’s NSO opens public consultation for its new crime classification: ICCS A.R.D

After a joint effort of more than two years between the UNODC-INEGI Center of Excellence and the National Statistics Office (ONE) of the Dominican Republic, a significant achievement has been reached in the harmonization of criminal justice data in the country. This collaboration has resulted in the creation of a common frame of reference called ICCS A.R.D, specifically adapted to the Penal Code and Dominican laws.

ICCS A.R.D arose in response to the need to standardize data from various criminal justice institutions, such as the police, prosecution, courts and prisons, as well as from different sources, such as administrative records and victimization surveys. This framework will allow for better visibility of crime statistics, facilitating their analysis and dissemination.

To ensure citizen participation in this implementation process, the NSO has decided to open a public consultation period, which will run from April 8 to May 3. During this time, citizens will have the opportunity to make observations, recommendations and suggestions on the ICCS A.R.D through a public consultation form specially designed for this purpose.

This initiative demonstrates ONE’s interest in citizen participation in fundamental issues such as criminal justice and citizen security. It is expected that ICCS A.R.D will contribute to further strengthen the criminal justice statistics system in the country.
