International Conference on Homicide Reduction, a proposal to address homicidal and femicidal violence

Mexico City, Mexico. December 1, 2023

The Citizen Security Program of the Universidad Iberoamericana, along with the Research Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Data Cívica, the Miguel Agustín Pro-Juárez Human Rights Center, the Seminar on Violence and Peace, Impunidad Cero and México Evalúa, organized the “International Conference on Homicide Reduction”. A hybrid event that, for 3 days, sought to bring together people specialized and interested in the subject, with the goal of discussing and finding new ways to address homicidal and femicidal violence from a multidisciplinary perspective.

During the third and last day, Adriana Oropeza Lliteras, coordinator of the UNODC-INEGI Center of Excellence, presented the information on intentional homicides available in the UNODC data portal with which the Global Study on Homicide 2023 (GSH) was produced.

In her speech, she spoke about the relevance and contribution of the GSH, which offers the opportunity to visualize cases of violence against women and other populations, in order to characterize them and develop actions to address and mitigate them. She also commented on the analysis of emergency calls for the identification of cases of violence against women, an activity developed by the UNODC-INEGI Center of Excellence for the identification of patterns and trends.
