Progress on the implementation of the Statistical Quality Assessment of the administrative records from the National Civilian Police of Guatemala

With an interest in improving the quality of their administrative records, the National Civilian Police of Guatemala (PNC for its Spanish initials) requested assistance from the CoE to initiate the process of the Statistical Quality Assessment (SQA) based on the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics of the United Nations through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Guatemala.

Within the scope of the project “Evidence-based information management for citizen security in Central America and the Dominican Republic” the CoE team visited the Republic of Guatemala from March 12 to 15 to conduct activities related to the process of the SQA. One of the activities that stands out is the workshop to validate internal processes of the Command and Control Center for Criminality and potential Conflict (C5) of the PNC and to the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS) inclusion into their databases.

Finally, a meeting was held with the National Institute of Statistics (INE for its Spanish initials) to introduce the process of the SQA within the scope of the Specific Strategy for Statistical Management (EEGE for its Spanish initials) and its role within the National Statistical System.

The CoE will continue working together with the PNC, the UNDP, and the INE to improve the quality of their administrative records.
