Guatemala’s National Civil Police kicks-off actions to improve the Statistical Quality of their records

On April 26 and 27, the National Civil Police of Guatemala held working sessions to start the Statistical Quality Assessment of their police records. The activity was organized as part of the collaboration between the Center for Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Crime, Victimization and Justice (CoE) and the United Nations Development Program, under the project “Evidence-based information management for citizen security in Central America and the Dominican Republic (Info-Segura)”.

The CoE presented the Statistical Quality Assessment process, which is based on the Fundamental Principles of the Official Statistics of the United Nations. The National Statistics Institute of Guatemala (INE) announced the Specific Strategy for Statistical Management (EEGE) and its role within the National Statistical System (SEN). Similarily, the National Civil Police presented, in general terms, their internal mechanisms for the generation of criminal statistics.

Finally, the Ministry of the Interior expressed interest in the eventual implementation of statistical quality assessments in other units under its command, to improve the quality of its overall statistical data.
