Promoting international standards of statistical production in Paraguay: Victimization Surveys, International Classification of Crimes for Statistical Purposes (ICCS) and Sustainable Development Goals 2030

From April 16 to 19, personnel from the Center of Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Public Safety, Victimization and Justice (CoE) provided training to Paraguayan officials regarding the methodological characteristics of the implementation of a Crime Victimization Survey, which should be based on international standards and is necessary to monitor the progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially Goal 16 that promotes peaceful and inclusive societies. In addition to this workshop, the process of Evaluation of Statistical Quality offered by the CoE was addressed, and an introductory session of the International Classification of Crimes for Statistical Purposes (ICCS) was offered, highlighting its usefulness in the framework of the comparability of criminal statistics at a national and international level.

This training is part of the objectives of Paraguay’s National Citizen Security Strategy, which considers as one of its core components the production of quality information on security and citizen coexistence, in order to understand the current situation and evolution of different aspects related to crime, and that should be used for the planning, implementation, permanent monitoring and evaluation of public policies based on evidence on security matters, both at the national and local levels.

The participating institutions were the National Statistical Office (DGEEC), the Ministry of the Interior, the National Police, the Public Ministry and the Ministry of Women.
