Latin American and Caribbean countries meet to measure SDG16

On April 22nd, the opening session of the Regional Training to Measure SDG16 in Latin America and the Caribbean took place. This training is organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through the Centre of Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Crime, Victimization and Justice (CoE) – a joint project of UNODC with the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) of Mexico -, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The series of trainings will take place virtually over 7 webinars every Thursday between April 22nd and June 3rd, 2021.

The webinars will focus on measuring the progress of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 indicators in Latin America with the aim of strengthening the technical capacities of different institutions and coordination between data producers and users to generate, analyze and disseminate SDG 16 indicators and promote a “data community” that allows the exchange of experiences and challenges.

The event was opened by Ms. Angela Me, UNODC Chief of the Research and Analysis Branch, Mr. José Cruz-Osorio, Director of UNDP Regional Center for Latin America and the Caribbean Mr. Jan Jarab, OHCHR Regional Representative for the Regional Office for South America.

The panellists talked about the different methodological tools and data collection of the UN agencies involved in the measurement of SDG 16.

The seminar recorded a total of 1,315 people from 35 countries (27 from the region and 8 from other regions) registered for the seminar and participated with questions and comments.
