The CoE continues its work to measure illicit financial flows in the region

The Centre of Excellence in Statistical Information on Governmnent, Crime, Victimization and Justice (CoE) participated in a meeting to follow up the Illicit Flows (IFFs) Measurement Pilot in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna. This initiative falls within the scope of the indicator 16.4.1 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which was defined to meaure « the total values of the inward and outward illicit financial flows ».

The CoE, UNODC in Vienna and UNODC Colombia´s staff reviewed progress in desk review, available data, methodologies, as well as preliminary IFF estimates related to drug markets, trafficking in persons, smuggling of migrants and illegal mining in Mexico and Colombia.

Pilot activities will continue to be carried until the end of the year in the five participant countries: Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama and Peru.
