Public officials prepare a roadmap to strengthen statistics on violence and crime in Bolivia

September 28. For two days, officials from the institutions in charge of citizen security and criminal justice policies in Bolivia participated in a workshop organized by the Observatory on Citizen Security and Drugs, the National Statistics Institute and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Bolivia with the support of the Center of Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Crime, Victimization and Justice, part of the UNODC Office in Mexico.

During the sessions, participants received the International Classification of Crimes for Statistical Purposes (ICCS), learnt about Statistical Quality, exchanged methodologic criteria on criminal victimization surveys and discussed responses to face the challenges for measuring indicators of citizen security, victimization and justice on a national level and to report on the 2030 Development Agenda.

With the inputs of all the participating institutions, a road map was drafted to improve the collection of information on violence and crime. The roadmap starts from the progress, challenges and information needs for administrative and statistical purposes that exist at the national, regional and global levels. This road map captures the legal, technological and coordination challenges that institutions will have to resolve to integrate a National Statistical System of Citizen Safety that recaptures good practices and international standards in the matter.
