Ecuador retakes its efforts to measure corruption and transparency

On January 25th the Center of Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Crime, Victimization and Justice (CoE), along with the National Institute on Statistics and Census (INEC) of Ecuador, took part in the meetings of the national working groups on corruption and transparency statistics.

Sitting alongside the most relevant institutions in regard to corruption measurement and the development of transparency and accountability policies, the CoE shared varied perspectives and international experiences which will surely prove beneficial for the development of national indicators on these topics. Moreover, the CoE witnessed some of the major steps Ecuador has taken to define measurement tools and instruments that will allow a thorough knowledge of the causes, conditions and expressions of this behavior, in compliance with the National Development Plan 2017-2021 of Ecuador.

The CoE reiterated its willingness to collaborate with the INEC and other authorities for the refinement of the indicators that are developed in the working groups. In the same way, both institutions showed their commitment to strengthen the bonds of collaboration established within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between UNODC and the Government of Ecuador, signed on September 22, 2017.
