UNODC contributes to the generation of security and justice statistics

From 14 to 16, November the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) held the ninth meeting of the Statistical Conference of the Americas in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The meeting was convened within the Mexican presidency of this body through the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico (INEGI).

During the meeting, attendants discussed the work programs that will be promoted by the National Statistical Offices of the region in the next biennium. They highlighted topics such as the use of earth observation tools, the integration of Big Data with other sources of information and the efforts to report on the Sustainable Development Goals Indicators.

Within the framework of the meeting, the General Directorate of Government, Security and Justice Statistics of INEGI presented the proposed works for the Security and Justice Statistics Group in its capacity as group leader. The Center of Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Crime, Victimization and Justice reiterated its support to this group as Technical Secretariat, as well as its openness to engage with other Working Groups such as the International Classifications one and the Group on Administrative Records.
