Workshops for the International Classification of Crimes for Statistical Purposes in Costa Rica

On June 20 and 21, The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through the The Center of Excellence for Statistical Information on Government, Crime, Victimization and Justice (CdE), within an interagency cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in contribution to the INFOSEGURA Project, carried out an introductory workshop with the Costa Rican authorities about the International Classification of Crimes for Statistical Purposes (ICCS).

The International Classification of Crimes for Statistical Purposes also contributes with the efforts to measure some indicators associated to the 16 Goal, of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specially to the Crime Statistics Quality, by using international standards for its creation.

These sessions organization took place with the support of The Interinstitutional Technical Commission on Coexistence and Citizen Security Statistics (COMESCO) led by the Peace Vice Ministry of the  Justice Ministry, with officers assistance from the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), National Statistics and Censuses Institute (INEC), Costa Rican Institute on Drugs (ICD), Alcoholism and Pharmacodepence Institute (IAFA),Health Ministry, Education Ministry (MEP) and Planning Ministry (MIDEPLAN).

At the workshop end, was suggested the generation of a roadmap for the ICCS implementation under COMESCO leadership, the works that get registered on the roadmap will be supported by the UNODC and the Center of Excellence.
