Promoting SDG 16 with the criminology academic community

On 15-16 November, the Center of Excellence shared with students from the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, the statistical and methodological products produced by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) that aim to improve statistics worldwide, as well as the products that the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) publishes to provide statistical data to the population on the subject of Government, Public Safety and Justice. In addition, the importance of victimization surveys was highlighted as the most appropriate source to measure four indicators of Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), focused on promoting Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

This participation was framed within the International Congress entitled Criminology versus Objective 16 of Sustainable Development, regarding the celebration of the Day of the Criminologist. The objective of this event was for the students to reflect on their role as future criminologists in the prevention of crime and the transformation of this discipline through the use of statistical data for decision making in the field of criminological policy in the era of information and technology.
